September 21, 2023Over the course of a year and a half of war in Ukraine, the number of disabled individuals has increased by 300,000.
This was reported by the Minister of Social Policy, Oksana Zhulnovych, during the opening of the “All-Ukrainian Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for Persons with Disabilities.”
“In Ukraine, there are three million people with disabilities. It used to be 2.7 million. In a year and a half, we have seen an increase of around 300,000,” Zhulnovych stated.
According to her, Ukraine currently faces a shortage of specialists and suitable rehabilitation centers. However, there is insufficient funding for social expenses due to the needs of the Armed Forces.
However, in August, The Wall Street Journal cited an even larger figure for Ukrainians who have lost one or more limbs, up to 50,000. These numbers are comparable to the damage inflicted during World War I.
